A full-day boat trip to Dolphin House requires a few specific items to keep you comfortable and compliant with park rules. Since you spend 7 to 8 hours on the water, sun protection and the mandatory environmental fee are your top priorities.

How much cash should I bring on a Marsa Alam boat trip?

You need 10 to 15 Euros in cash for the Shaab Samadai National Park environmental fee.

This fee is usually collected on the boat before you depart. You can pay in Euros or Egyptian Pounds (EGP). Bring a little extra cash if you want to tip the boat crew and snorkeling guides at the end of the day.

What sun protection do I need for Dolphin House?

Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard, sunglasses, and a sun hat with a chin strap.

Apply your reef-safe sunscreen at least 30 minutes before entering the water. A rash guard adds excellent protection while snorkeling in Zone B. A chin strap on your hat prevents it from blowing away during the 40 to 50-minute boat ride.

Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear?

Most tours provide a mask, snorkel, and fins, but you can bring your own if you prefer.

Life jackets are 100% required by park rules for all snorkelers, regardless of your swimming ability. The tour operators will provide these on the dive deck before you enter the water.

What clothing should I pack for the boat?

Pack a towel, swimwear, and a light windbreaker or jacket if you visit during winter months.

Water temperatures range from 23 degrees Celsius in winter to 29 degrees Celsius in summer. You will dry off on the sun deck between your water sessions. Ensure you are completely dry before entering the interior dining cabin for lunch.

Should I pack motion sickness medication?

Yes, taking motion sickness medication before boarding is highly recommended for the Red Sea.

The boat ride from Marsa Alam Marina or Tondoba Bay takes 40 to 50 minutes each way. Even on calm days, the yacht will anchor at the outer reef. Taking medication early helps prevent nausea during the 7 to 8-hour trip.

What kind of camera is best for Shaab Samadai?

A waterproof camera or a GoPro is ideal for capturing your snorkeling sessions.

Keep your camera attached with a wrist strap. You are not allowed to touch or chase the spinner dolphins, so use a camera to photograph them from a respectful distance while guided by your instructor.
